Principal's Message
Mary Covillaud is an amazing school and it is both a privilege and an honor to be the current principal of this esteemed school. Mary Covillaud has a rich tradition of excellence and has received many accolades including a CA Distinguished School recognition, a U.S. New and World Report Top Elementary School honor, and most recently was recognized as one of the best elementary schools in Yuba County. The staff here are dedicated to not only the students, but also to their profession. They love promoting learning and celebrating success. We truly believe that All Learners Will Learn and we work hard to support our students' learning and growth.
My name is Karen Dow and I was born and raised in Gridley, California. I have my Bachelor of Arts in History and my Masters in Education, both from the University of California at Santa Barbara. I also have my Masters in Educational Administration from Concordia University Irvine. I lived and taught in Santa Clara California for 15 years before deciding with my husband to relocate our family. We have two sons (ages 10 and 9) who we wanted to raise in a more rural environment and closer to family. I accepted the Vice Principal position at Ella Elementary in 2019 and have been working for Marysville Joint Unified for the past four years as both a Vice Principal and Principal. I am grateful to be the new Principal of Mary Covillaud School and eager to use my experiences to assist in the education of your learner(s). If at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to a successful 2023-2024 school year!
